CELEB NEWS: Beyoncé and Jayz visited Havana to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary. With bodyguards and tour guide accompanying them, they toured the city of Havana, Cuba‘s capital. They dined at La Guardia restaurant on Wednesday night wherein photos of previous celebrities like Will Smith, Danny Glover, Jack Nicholson and Jodie Foster were plastered on a wall of the private restaurant. Beyoncé also posed for pictures with school children while Jayz smoked the famous Cuban cigar. Cuba is the latest sex tourist destination today but if celebrities like them will continue to visit Cuba, it could become the latest “chic” destination for Hollywood elites and other liberals.
SERIOUS NEWS: According to The Toronto Star and El Nuevo Herald, foreigners especially Canadians and Spaniards are choosing Cuba as a sex tourist destination. They also discovered underage girls and boys, some as young as 4 years old, are forced into prostitution by their own family members. Pimps, cab drivers and hotel employees discreetly arrange the transactions between the dollar-paying tourists and the prostitutes.
For $30 a night, the tourists can get a prostitute and for $10 they can rent a house that they call ” casas particulares” for a night of orgy. A 12-year-old girl in 2010 died from one of these orgies involving three Italians and ten Cubans.
The 2011 report by Royal Canadian Mounted Police ( RCMP ) showed Cuba as one of the main destinations in the Americas for Canadian sex predators. More than one million Canadians visit Cuba every year. In 1998, 78-year-old Canadian James Mc Turk was convicted of possession of child pornography that he filmed while he was in Cuba.
Fidel Castro in a 1992 speech said Cuban women are not forced to sell themselves to tourists but those who do so are not doing it out of necessity. Castro also bragged:
“We can say that they are highly educated hookers and quite healthy, because we are the country with the lowest numbers of AIDS cases…THEREFORE, THERE IS REALLY NO PROSTITUTION HEALTHIER THAN CUBA’S.”
When the Soviet Union collapsed in the early 1990s, Cuba lost its $6 billion subsidy from communist Russia, its sole financial provider. Facing economic collapse and extreme starvation wherein people would eat even animals in the zoo, Castro was forced to exercise a little bit of capitalism. For the first time, it legalized self-owned businesses like owning a restaurant and owning a taxi cab. It also legalized the use of dollar as a currency exchange. The tourism industryflourished and became a source of good income for many Cubans.
Tourism is now an annual $1.9 billion industry, surpassing the sugar industry in the country. Devastated by communism-induced-poverty, many Cubans are being saved right now by engaging in the oldest trade in the world – prostitution. In the meantime Fidel Castro is the only known winner in Cuba’s experiment on communism. According to Forbes, Castro is now worth $1 billion while many Cubans are finding hope and better life through the dollar-paying business of prostitution.
