This is the moment a baby orangutan plucked up the courage to try his very first rope walk.

The ape decided to go it alone after watching his parents skilfully make their way across the ropes in their enclosure at Moscow Zoo, in Russia.

Although the newborn looked a little nervous to begin with, it didn’t take long for the infant to find his feet and he was soon into the swing of things.

A crowd quickly gathered after zoo keepers announced the special moment to nearby visitors.
Keen amateur photographer, Sergei Gladyshev, managed to capture the whole event on camera.

He said: ‘Chimps are my favourite animals and the orangutans at Moscow Zoo always put on a good show.

‘This time was no exception and it was obvious the little guy didn’t suffer from stage fright.

‘Surprisingly, the baby was very confident in his movements and looked as if he had done it a hundred times before.
