Forget expensive shoes and pricey handbags, a Swiss-based company want to make the mobile phone the new must-have luxury product for women.
Savelli will present their collection of decadent mobiles at Paris Couture Week in July but have already released some details of what consumers with expensive taste can expect on their website.
The are 11 smartphones in the collection mostly costing from £5,868 to £6,378. The price tag is so high because the products are made using rare leathers such as blue ostrich, black alligator and iguana along with 18-carat gold and are embellished precious stones.
The range also includes a phone, the ‘Black Insane’ model for a truly insane price – £76,543 – because is is set with 75 baguette-cut diamonds.
Savelli CEO Alessandro Savelli told WWD that they are targetting women with their smartphone collection that will run on the Google Android platform.
He said: ‘From a design perspective, this was the objective: Creating a completely disruptive design which had nothing in common with any other phone which had ever been designed before.
‘We wanted to create a shape that was feminine, curvaceous, but at the same time extremely modern.’
The brand’s website describe their mobiles in sensual terms stating the shape as ‘slender’ and ‘curving’ with ‘feminine beauty’, ‘mesmerising materials’ and ‘strokeable leather’.
With the use of ‘glowing rose gold’, ‘sparkling white diamonds’ and a screen made of the same sapphire crystal glass used for luxury watches, the brand have produced a smartphone that is like an item of jewellery with added technical features.
So it comes as no surprise that Savelli ancestors worked in jewellery manufacturing with him now taking the family line into a more modern direction.
The collection, with names like perfumes such as Diamond Rain and Ardent Red, will officially be launched on July 3 with an advertising campaign starring French model Julia Restoin-Roitfeld.
