The gadget that gets you all in a spin: Chinese student invents a FOLDABLE washing machine that can be carried around
- A Chinese mechanical design student has developed a foldable washing machine with a motorised rotating shaft
- The 3kg machine can wash up to five items of clothing at a time
A Chinese student has developed a 3kg washing machine that can be folded up and carried in a bag.
Its base and foldable tube expands into a washing barrel with rotating shaft connected to a small electric motor.
The design washes up to five items of clothing at a time and was created by 21-year-old Pu Qingliang, a mechanical design and manufacture student at Chongqing Electromechanical Vocational Institute.
The design is made up of a base and a foldable tube, or dehydration barrel.
The tube expands to become a washing barrel with a wave wheel and rotating shaft connected to a small electric motor.
A load can be spun for as long as is required and doesn’t come with a timer.
Pu Qingliang, 21, carrying his foldable washing machine and motorised base. He was inspired to create the washing machine when his roommate complained about having to hand wash all of his clothing
Pu was inspired to create the washing machine when his roommate complained about having to hand wash all of his clothing.
The housemate said he wished there was a foldable washing machine and Pu thought: I study mechanical design and manufacture.
‘Why can’t I design and make such a foldable washing machine?’
Pu is confident that his invention will be popular.
‘I had a survey on the street by distributing 10,000 questionnaires.
A total of 6,795 surveyed people said they wanted to buy one.’
The Haier Group – the world’s largest white appliances company – has also been in contact with Pu about his design.
