Marcus Curry, 27, has been charged for allegedly killing a German Shepherd puppy like this one by running it through a dishwasher
A 27-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly killing a puppy by putting it in a running dishwasher to keep it from defecating in his apartment.
Marcus Curry has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty after leaving the tiny German Shepherd in the dishwasher ‘too long’ before dumping its dead body in a trash can on Wednesday.
The Memphis resident was arrested after a maintenance man found the dead canine in a red duffel bag in a dumpster near Curry’s Eden at Watersedge Apartments home on South Mendenhall Rd.
Workers at the complex told News Channel 3 they noticed the mixed-breed puppy tied up for days on Curry’s balcony on a short cord with no water.
When they told Curry he needed to take better care of the dog, he took it inside.
About an hour later, Curry allegedly came outside with a red duffel bag which he threw in a dumpster.
Henry Jones, one of the workers who had given the dog some water, found the wet puppy in the garbage.
‘I was thinking to myself ‘That must be the dog,” Jones told News Channel 3.
‘I unzipped the bag and saw the dog and it was wet.’
Another witness said they saw the animal in the dishwasher and it didn’t move when Curry took it out.
Neighbors reacted with the horror to the shocking news.
Toney Robinson told News Channel 3: ‘They may have to take dude to the hospital instead of jail.
‘He may have a little brain problem.’
Sean Williams said: ‘That’s sick, why would you do that? You wash dishes with a dishwasher.
‘Why would you put a dog in there.’
