The former mistress of TV news man Chris Hansen has spoken publicly about her steamy affair with the man 32 years her senior and the negative impact it has had on her career ever since it was revealed two years ago.
Former TV newswoman Kristyn Caddell claims Hansen, 54 lied to her that his marriage was ‘filled with misery and on the verge of disarray’ in an open letter published in this week’s National Enquirer.
‘Chris told me a divorce was inevitable and the wedding ring on his finger was all but for show,’ Caddell, 32, wrote about their four-month affair in 2011.
She thought Hansen – who was best known for catching internet sex perverts on To Catch a Predator – meant what he said about leaving his wife and two kids.
‘Chris was flying me all over the country; putting us up in the finest hotels; having dinner and mingling with many of his colleagues; having our photographs taken together in public places; he would even speak with my family on the phone,’ Caddell wrote.
She was a reporter for WPTV-Channel 5 in Florida, but says since news of the affair broke she claims to have been turned down by at least a dozen major market news stations.
Her hope now is that her honesty will lead to new job opportunities.
‘I don’t wish any harm on Chris, yet our affair has essentially destroyed my professional career,’ she wrote.
Caddell, who was once an intern with NBC in New York, had introduced herself to Hansen in the VIP area at the Blue Martini Lounge in Palm Beach in March 2011.
After news of the affair broke, it was reported that NBC bosses were planning to shelve plans to make him host of dateline after Ann Curry went to the Today show.
They thought it may be too damaging to let Hansen take over as anchor of the news magazine show.
