PUBLISHED: 15:50 EST, 4 July 2013 | Knoxville has been hailed America’s most patriotic city as the country celebrates Independence Day today.

The study on the most patriotic places in the U.S was conducted by the location-based social networking website, Foursquare, which released its figures today, just in time for July 4th.

The website based their results on social media check-ins at parks, firework retailers and last year’s July 4 parades, Brandi Holmes of communications company, M Booth, tells The Blaze.

Knoxville, which is Tennessee’s third largest city with a population of about 180,000, was declared number one.

The Quincy Market is a historic building near Faneuil Hall in downtown Boston, which was constructed in 1824–1826, which has food-stalls, fast-food outlets and restaurants.

‘Similarly, for historical sites, Foursquare looked at the highest number of check-ins on July 4, 2012, at different historical sites across the nation,’ Holmes tells The Blaze.

They were also ranked according to highest number of check-ins on Independence Day 2012, according to Holmes.

The rest of the list includes The White House in DC in fourth place; Independence Hall in Philadelphia in fifth; the Statue of Liberty in New York City in sixth place; the Jefferson Memorial in DC has the seventh spot; eighth place is Liberty Bell Center in Philadelphia; Alcatraz Island in San Francisco comes in ninth; and in tenth place lies the World War II Memorial in DC.

The Statue of Liberty reopened today after eight months of undergoing repairs after Hurricane Sandy hit New York in October last year.

GALLUP: MOST REPUBLICANS LOVE BEING AMERICAN

Ninety-three per cent of Republicans say they are ‘extremely/very proud’ to be American, compared to 85 per cent per cent of Democrats.

Eighty-nine per cent of conservatives say they are ‘extremely/very proud’ to be American compared to 76 per cent of liberals.

But it is not only the American cities and monuments that have been tested for their level of patriotism.

In recognition of Independence Day, Gallup has released a poll on whether American citizens are still proud to be American.

Ninety-three per cent of Republicans indicate that they are ‘extremely/very proud’ to be American, while only 85 per cent of Democrats feel the same way, according to the poll published by the Washington Examiner.

Eighty-one per cent of political Independents indicate they are ‘extremely/very proud.’

Likewise, 89 per cent of poll respondents who identified themselves as conservative are ‘extremely/very proud’ to be American compared to 76 per cent of liberals.

Looks like it’s time for all good patriots to fire up the barbeque, throw some burgers, chicken and brats on the grill, and start blowing stuff up.

It is, after all, Independence Day today.
