A woman was stabbed and another punched this morning on the 6 train.
A crazed woman stabbed one woman multiple times and punched another woman in the face around 10am Monday as the 6 train approached the 59th Street/Lexington Avenue station in Midtown, according to officials.
‘She was crazy,’ an MTA employee who witnessed the assault told the New York Daily News, ‘She was just targeting random people. She stabbed a woman in the shoulder and stomach with a steak knife.’
Closed: Police roped off the 59th Street/Lexington Avenue subway station while investigating the stabbing
The first victim, 39, was stabbed in the stomach and shoulder by the attacker, according to officials. Terrified, she ran upstairs to the iconic Bloomingdale’s department store for help, according to the paper.
‘Why me?’ It was so random,’ a Bloomingdale’s employee told the Daily News the victim said.
‘Calm down. We are getting you help,'” Bloomy’s doorman Kyle Manning told the paper he told the distraught victim.
The stabbing victim was rushed to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, officials told Mail Online.
The second victim, 19, was punched in the face by the demented stabbing suspect, officials said. She refused medical attention, reported WABC.
A team of passengers, led by good samaritan Charles Williams, tackled and held the assailant down until police showed.
Taken away: The attacker was restrained and taken to nearby Bellvue Hospital for a mental evaluation, charges are pending the outcome
‘I just acted and tried to save some people’s lives… Somebody gotta step up and try to prevent things from happening. I just did what I had to do,’ Williams told WNBC.
A knife with an almost four inch-long blade was recovered by investigators, WNBC reported.
The suspect, estimated to be in her 20s, had to be restrained by cops and was transported to Bellvue Hospital for a mental evaluation, according to authorities, who told Mail Online that ‘she’s being processed as an emotionally disturbed person.’
The 6 train, which normally runs local, ran express from 125th street to 42nd for about 30 minutes, normal service has since been restored.
There is no known connection between the attacker and her victims, charges are pending the outcome of the mental evaluation, cops said. The names of those involved have not been released.
