Woman accused of hate crime after she ‘attacks 73-year-old musician on stage after song dedicated to Trayvon Martin‘

Blues and rock legend Lester Chambers was attacked by a woman at his own concert on Saturday in California, as he prepared to sing a song dedicated to Trayvon Martin.
The 73-year-old lead singer of 1960s group The Chambers Brothers suffered severe bruising after 43-year-old Dinalynn Andrews Potter jumped the stage and shoved him to the ground yelling ‘It’s all your fault.’
The alleged assault in fact took place just hours before George Zimmerman was sensationally acquitted of all charges – but nonetheless demonstrates the tensions bubbling under the surface that have exploded after the not-guilty verdict.
‘She had a crazed look in her eye,’ said Kurt Kangas, a friend of Chambers who ran to his aid according to the Mercury News. ‘I saw the devil there.’
Chambers is reported to have told the audience that he was going to change the lyrics ‘there’s a train a comin’, to ‘there’s a change a comin,’ said Chamber’s wife, Lola.
‘She must have been an acrobat. She did it in one leap. He didn’t see her coming,’ Lola Chambers said.
Potter is white, according to police.
Chambers was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released.
Members of the audience subdued Potter after the incident and she was detained by the police. She was charged with suspicion of battery and released according to Lt. Ruben Pola of Hayward Police.
After the attack, Dylan Chambers posted onto Facebook that the singer was recovering at home in the wake of the attack.
‘A bruised rib muscle and nerve damage and he is sore all over…’ wrote Dylan Chambers as the family said that the attack was racially motivated and called on police to file hate crime charges.
Chambers was a member of the 1960s soul group Chambers Brothers and has had a well-publicized fight with record executives over decades of royalty payments he said he has never received.
