KATE’S OPINION: WHAT IF THE ZIMMERMAN-MARTIN STORY WAS REVERSED? WOULD TRAYVON MARTIN BE HAILED AS A HERO WHILE ZIMMERMAN AS A BAD GUY WHO DESERVED WHAT HE GOT?

I believe the acquittal of George Zimmerman was fair. The problem with the whole Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman  story was how it was politicized from the very beginning and labeled as a race issue. It became a white-against-black crime, the latest proof of racism in America. But what if the story was reversed with Trayvon Martin as the neighborhood patrol guy and Zimmerman as the suspicious character walking in the middle of the night in that Florida neighborhood.

I bet the portrayal of the story would be different. Trayvon Martin would be hailed as a hero who was only doing his job trying to protect the neighborhood. On the other hand Zimmerman would be portrayed as  the bad guy who deserved what he got because not only was he acting suspiciously that night, he was the one who pounced on the poor Trayvor Martin and threatened to kill him.

And since Trayvon Martin, the good guy doing his security job, was only trying to defend himself from the attacker, when the gun went off during the struggle and he killed Zimmerman, they would say it was no doubt a self defense. It would be outrageous to accuse the neighborhood’s black hero of being racist, profiling a Hispanic-white guy in a hoodie and deliberately tried to kill him because he didn’t like Hispanic-white people.

If that night, Trayvon Martin was George Zimmerman and vise versa, the story would be ‘How a black guy saved the neighborhood from a white criminal.’ But since the race-obsessed American left are always hungry for the latest ‘racist’ story, either real or imaginary, the Trayvon Martin shooting assuaged their thirst for bringing race issue back into spotlight. It gave them fantasies of going back into the streets to protest and to show the ‘system’ that they will fight this ‘injustice’.

It delighted black-left leaders like Al Sharpton and the liberal media to finally talk about America’s sin- the incurable racism disease in America despite of the fact that America elected as president an unknown freshman senator from Chicago Barack Obama because Americans believing he will end the racial problem in the country.  But the most unvettted president, and still is, in the history of American politics did not unite the country but actually became the Divider-in-chief and used Justice Department to finance rallies against Trayvon martin shooting.

The prosecution team had every chance to prove their case but they failed. The defense team of Don West used every chance they got to correct the lies and to tell the American people what really happened that night. What they can’t accept is that truth prevailed and it was proven in the court that George Zimmerman was just defending himself against his attacker Trayvon Martin.  If George Zimmerman is black, this case won’t even be news. But since George Zimmerman is a ‘white’ male, he became the perfect ingredient for another ‘white-racist-killing-a-black’ story, something that delights the liberal media and the Democrats to no end.

Every death is a tragedy but what is more  tragic is when death is being used to politicize justice and to  punish an innocent person because you have a determined group from the American left who have invested on a guilty verdict of Zimmerman from the very beginning. To them a guilty verdict is a triumph over racism. But the question is, when are the black leaders and the Democrat party going to become obsessed in cleaning up the black-on-black crime? If they can get this obsessed with Zimmerman, shouldn’t they do the same thing to their own community.

  1. If Trayvon had been the security guard, he would have been arrested on the spot, and they would not have assumed he was telling the truth. Happens every damn day … every day. You are right about the weak prosecution, and the verdict is correct given the evidence, but if you think those cops would have said “Ok Trayvon … go home, we believe you ….” you are not living in the America I live in … or you have not been in a black person’s shoes. We answer to a different standard. Young Black man with smoking gun = probably guilty in most police stations across this country. By the way, I am a right (conservative) voter and by no means a race baiter. I agree with the lack of accountability in the black community when it comes to cleaning up their own self inflicted messes. BUT … I have been followed, questioned, pursued, suspected merely because I was black … for years. I am employed, have an Ivy league education, and no criminal record. I am married to a white man. I am the first to roll my eyes when people play the race card …. but I am sorry to say profiling DOES exist. It just does. I experience it on a weekly basis. That is MY reality, and that is what has people upset. It is the profiling more than the shooting …. the assumptions based on appearance. We do not all look alike. We are not all suspects. He was playing cop – he is not a cop. I am fine with the self defense claim once a struggle began. But in the end he followed a profiled someone who was walking home, disobeyed police orders and got out of his car and ended up in this situation. Trayvon would have been arrested on the spot. On. The. Spot. I am not race obsessed. I am not an Obama voter. But this is my reality. every day. And I cannot act like it does not exist.
