Alicia White, 38, of Binger, has been arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor in connection to the July 10 altercation between her daughter, Aliyah, and 15-year-old Whitney Irvin.
The video of the savage beating that played out in front of a Mexican restaurant on Main Street was posted on Facebook, but has since been removed.
Confrontation: Aliyah White (far right) attacked Whitney Irvin (second left) after the two former friends had spent weeks feuding
Irresponsible parenting: Police say Aliyah’s mother, Alicia White, was standing on the sidelines and egging her daughter on
The shocking footage showed a girl in blue shorts and a hooded sweatshirt attacking a petite teen, hurling her to the ground, slapping her and pulling on her hair, with a mother heard on the sideliners egging the assailant on with phrases like ‘kick her a**!’ and ‘don’t stop!’ according to the station
In a sworn affidavit, Binger police officer Bobby Lynn said that the victim, Whitney Irvin, told him what happened, but it was not until he watched the 2-minute video on Facebook that he determined that a crime had taken place.
Delayed probe: Irvin went to police after the fight and told an officer what happened, but it was not until the video came to light that an investigation got under way
Regret: Aliyah White was contrite about her actions and said she wished she could talk it out with her former friend instead of resorting to violence
Apple of discord: The girls explained that they had been friends before the argument, which started over a boy
The 38-year-old mother could face up to one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000 if convicted of misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of minors.
Following the altercation, Aliyah White told News9 that she had been feuding with Whitney for several weeks and explained that last week she snapped after hearing the 15-year-old hurling racial slurs at her.
On her part, Irvin has denied being racist, adding that she had been friends with Aliyah before the argument, which started over a boy.
Aftermath: Whitney Irvin and her mother have denied accusations of racism, with the 15-year-old expressing hope that everyone could move past the incident
Both girls agreed that they wished the beatdown never happened and expressed desire to move past it.
‘I really wished I would have just talked it out with her instead of doing what I did and I know I’m going to have to face consequences,’ White said.
