‘Some days I want to run away screaming’: Tensions fray as America‘s most famous polygamist struggles to keep his four Sister Wives from falling out

The Brown family is back, and this time they are battling over money.
The atmosphere seems less ‘happy family’ and more ‘every man for himself’ as the wives disagree over how much time the family should invest in fourth wife Robyn’s brainchild, an online jewelry retailer.
Robyn accuses her fellow wives and husband Kody of being ‘half-interested, and half-invested’, saying that Kody had told her recently that he sees her idea as a ‘hobby’.
‘I don’t see it as a hobby business, because I don’t enjoy it,’ Kody fires back.
‘It is a challenge working with my wives,’ Kody later admits. ‘Some days, I don’t want to work with them. I want to run away screaming.’
Meanwhile Janelle bluntly says that she wants to focus on income streams that will allow her to pay her mortgage. She points out that at a recent trade show, the women only managed to sell 19 pieces out of a needed 100.
‘I don’t think that it will be profitable enough to support multiple people,’ she says. ‘I should be putting this time into my real estate business.’
‘I’m worried about how I’m going to put bread and butter on the table.’
In the past, the family has faced many conflicts over how finances are managed, and this season promises to be no exception.
After living in separate rental homes since their move from Utah to Las Vegas two years ago, last season ended on a high note with the family being approved for new homes in the same neighborhood.
But now they have four large mortgages as they struggle with their start-up jewelry business.
This season, TLC will tackle other sources of conflict in the family as Meri, who has been open about the pain of being unable to conceive after the birth of 17-year-old Mariah, makes a final decision about whether or not to let Robyn act as her surrogate.
The entire family also struggles with the changing family dynamic when multiple teens start leaving the nest.
There are some happy moments too: According to TLC, Kody and the wives have a surprise in store that will rebuild the closeness the family once shared back in Utah.
Technically, Kody’s union with first wife, 42-year-old Meri, is the sole legal marriage. The couple have been married for 23 years, and were later joined by 44-year-old second wife Janelle, 41-year-old third wife Christine, and most recently 34-year-old Robyn.
Sister Wives premieres on Sunday July 21, on TLC at 9pm.
