Refrigerator left for scrap holds a couple’s cache of cash

A worker at a Queens scrap yard discovered a bundle of money after a couple came by looking for the rusty fridge packed with dough.

Workers at a scrap yard in Ozone Park, Queens were looking for a couple who lost their savings stuffed into a rusty fridge.

 

A worker at a Queens scrap yard discovered a bunch of dough inside a dumped refrigerator — the kind that’s green and far more valuable than flour.

Michael Downer knew just where to look for the stacks of cash after his co-worker at Atlantic Recycling in Ozone Park told him a couple had stopped by desperate to locate their fridge.

The husband had discarded the appliance, unaware that his wife had hidden their life savings inside, NY1 reported.

Downer’s co-worker, Fred Alsterberg, hunted for the fridge with the couple Friday morning — but found nothing.

It wasn’t until Downer showed up hours later that the workers located the cash.

By then, the couple was gone — and the workers couldn’t find them. “We drove around for about 45 minutes,” Downer told NY1. “So now we’re just trying to find them so we can return their money.”

Downer and Alsterberg are hoping the pair come forward. They said fraudsters should steer clear because there are a lot of details about the money only the owners would know
