In recognition of Independence Day, Gallup has released a poll on whether American citizens are still proud to be American.

Ninety-three per cent of Republicans indicate that they are ‘extremely/very proud’ to be American, while only 85 per cent of Democrats feel the same way, according to the poll published by the Washington Examiner.

Eighty-one per cent of political Independents indicate they are ‘extremely/very proud.’ Likewise, 89 per cent of poll respondents who identified themselves as conservative are ‘extremely/very proud’ to be American compared to 76 per cent of liberals.

Looks like it’s time for all good patriots to fire up the barbeque, throw some burgers, chicken and brats on the grill, and start blowing stuff up. It is, after all, Independence Day today.

Sixty years ago Detroit was the wealthiest city in America but today it’s the poorest and by April may not be able to pay its bills. The city is the main employer of its 710,000 population although General Motors main headquarter and Chrysler’s assemby line are both located in the city. Detroit has $8.2 billion debt, a long-term debt of $14 billion, a $326 million budget deficit, 18 perecent unemployment rate and the highest crime rate in the country. The city’s labor costs (including health care and pensions) comprise 49.5% of its operating budget and it has 48 complex bargaining units repesenting its city’s labor force. It has the highest property tax in the country and half of its property taxes are not being paid.Even banks are walking away from their foreclosed properties not seeing any values in them.

Detroit city employees can retire and get pension plus lucrative health care benefit package after working for 20 years in the city. With more people leaving the city and tax revenues down, the city still has to shoulder its pension responsibilities and other operating costs despite of insufficient source of tax revenues. Republican Michigan Governor Rick Snyder plans to appoint an emegency financial manager to look over the city’s book accounts. But Socialist Democrat city council JoAnn Watson , along with two other members, are asking for a federal bailout from Obama saying since they voted for him, it’s time for Obama to bail them out. She’s also accusing Gov. Synder’s plan on putting emergency financial manager as being racist.

Detroit has been dominated and ran by Democrats for fifty years, a city with no fingerprints of Republicans found anywhere. Its mayor Dave Bing down to its city council members are all Democrats and it’s been owned and operated solely by the Democrat party using Democrat formula. The out-of-oil Motor City consists of 83% blacks, the largest perecentage in any city in the country. It has 75% drop-out rate, 85% illegitimacy rate and number one in STD chlamydia. Its city property crime rate is higher than the national average by 80% resulting to its depressed real estate. Although you can buy a fixer-upper home for $500 they still struggle finding buyers and investors due to its high crime and many unsafe abandoned neighborhoods.

Detroit is not a minority issue. It’s not a racial issue. You don’t see Asians, a minority race, turn any neighborhood into a high-crime uneducated ghetto scaring anybody or making people leave. Detroit is another casualty of the failed experiment of liberal Democrat-ideology swallowed and embraced by the people of Detroit. The Democrats 50 years of free rein and unobstructed management of the city made them the rightful owner and creator of bankrupt Detroit.
