WHO TIPS THE MOST? YOUR GUEST’S CREDIT CARD WILL GIVE YOU A HINT

Dear Professor Ariely,

I work as a waiter in Waikiki, and sometimes to pass the time I conduct mini-experiments with customers, altering my behavior and attitude from day to day and seeing if it increases tips (in case you were wondering, seeming sad nets the most tips). I have noticed that those paying with credit cards leave bigger tips, but it varies by card: American Express AXP +0.31% users tip the most, those with Visas a little less. Discover DFS +0.99% card users are by far the worst. I can’t quite figure this out. —V.

OBAMA NOTICE TO AIRMEN: DON’T LOOK AT INTERNET NEWS STORIES RELATED TO NSA-VERIZON SNOOPING SCANDAL, ‘MOST NOTABLY ‘THE GUARDIAN’ NEWS SITE

President Obama has said the outrage over the federal government’s decision to monitor citizens’ phone activity is all “hype.” He might want to share his opinion with the U.S. Air Force, which is ordering members of the service not to look at news stories about it.

WND has received an unclassified NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) that warns airmen not to look at news stories related to the data-mining scandal.

The notice applies to users of the Air Force NIPRNET (Non-classified Internet Protocol Router Network), which is the only way that many troops stationed overseas and on bases in the U.S. are able to access the Internet.

The last line of the executive summary states:

“Users are not to use AF NIPRNET systems to access the Verizon phone records collection and other related news stories because the action could constitute a Classified Message Incident.”

WANT A 16-INCH-WAIST? JUST SLEEP IN A CORSET FOR THREE YEARS AND IT WILL BE YOURS

Before and after: In 2008, when her waist was 25 in and...After: Michele with her new, miniscule waist

By Ruth Styles and Charlie Mccann

For most of us, a slender waist is the product of a careful diet and plenty of exercise. But not for Michele Kobke, 24. The Berliner has shrunk her waist from 64cm (25 inches) to just 40cm (16 inches) by wearing a corset every day for three years – even while sleeping. And despite now having a waist smaller than most catwalk model‘s, the German slimmer says she hopes to whittle her waist down to a shocking 38cm or 14 inches wide.

Tiny though Kobke’s waist is, the record for the world’s tiniest midriff is held by another – American Cathie Jung, whose waist measures just 38cm. By comparison, the average British woman has a waist that measures 84.9cm (33.43 inches) – equivalent to a dress size 14.

PRIVATE EYE FRED OTASH, WHO BUGGED MARILYN MONROE’S HOUSE, WROTE MONROE COMPLAINED ABOUT ‘BEING PASSED AROUND LIKE A PIECE OF MEAT’ AS SHE DESCRIBED RELATIONSHIP WITH BOTH JOHN AND ROBERT KENNEDY

'Passed around': President John F Kennedy and his brother Bobby (left) with Marilyn Monroe

Files shedding new light on Marilyn Monroe‘s last night alive and her relationships with President John F Kennedy and his younger brother Bobby have emerged 51 years after her death. Documents belonging to the late Fred Otash, one of Hollywood‘s most notorious private detectives, were uncovered by his daughter Colleen after being found in a suburban storage unit. According to Otash, who died in 1992, Monroe had a sexual relationship with the brothers and complained about being ‘passed around like a piece of meat’.

Otash, who had installed bugging devices in her Los Angeles home, has long been derided by Kennedy admirers for his claims to have listened to a tape of Monroe and JFK in bed together. But the notes published by The Hollywood Reporter magazine last week contained a detailed account of his bugging activities and what he heard. Shortly before his death, he told an interviewer: ‘They were having a sexual relationship … but I don’t want to get into the moans and groans.’

And in his notes, Otash claimed: ‘I listened to Marilyn Monroe die.’ He recorded that on August 5 1962, she had a violent argument with the Kennedys and that she felt that she had been ‘passed around like a piece of meat’.
